Gail M. Frazier

Gail MFrazier was a passionate educator who adored giving young children the foundation they needed to fall in love with learning. Born the second of seven children, she enjoyed playing the school teacher as a child. Her seventh grade teacher, Mrs. Helen Fletcher inspired her to pursue a career in Education. After graduating from Beach High School in 1970, Gail entered what was then Savannah State College now University. As a young mother, she attended college part time, while working part time and raising her daughter.  She was determined to complete her degree and pursue her dream of being a teacher. After 8 long years, she earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1978. She completed her student teaching at Gadsden Elementary in Savannah, GA. Ms. Frazier began her official teaching career as a second grade teacher at Seckinger Primary School in Glennville, GA where she molded young minds for 3 years. Gail changed direction, moved to Liberty County, GA and pursued Early Childhood Education as a leader at the Child Development Center on the Army post in Fort Stewart. This afforded her the opportunity to foster strong educational skills in early childhood with infants to kindergarteners. Gail‘s purpose in life was to ensure every child she came in contact with fell in love with learning. She later married a gentleman who took her Nuremberg, Germany where she continued teaching at the American preschool on the military base there.

There, she was given the opportunity to instruct teachers how to best prepare preschoolers for kindergarten. After returning to the U.S. she taught in Fayette County, NC, Columbia County, GA and Savannah Chatham County Public School System. After a short illness, she passed in 2016. This foundation was launched by Gail‘s only daughter, April N. West, to encourage and support young, single parent women majoring in Education at Savannah University so they will not have financial burdens and complete their degree in four years or less.
